Has the invention of the computer (computer in the workplace) made your job easier or harder? |
Do you get more work done than you used to? Have hour daily work hours increased or decreased since where you work started using computers? Much easier. I work in as a surgeon and everything is computerized (if that's even a word). Everything from medicines available, to patient records, to my schedule of surgeries and meetings with patients, etc. If everything was hand written it would be 75% harder. Both. Technology in the workplace has made certain tasks easier, and facilitates a great many things that would have otherwise been problematic and labor intensive. However, rather than shorten the work-week by making it easier and faster to accomplish tasks, the week is exactly as long as it was prior to the development of office technology. So, we are working just as hard and just as long as we were before. In addition, reliance on technology creates a new set of problems when it breaks down, as it inevitably does. Simply losing the applications of Microsoft Outlook can create all sorts of difficulties for the modern office. I've never worked in an office where there were no computers. ..but I do know I would hate to do my job if there were no computers. Given that I would have to say they make my job much easier and better. |
