What's more useful? A degree or certificates? |
Which is more likely to land an IT job? IT certificates or a degree in a computer field? If you are in the UK, a degree without doubt. You need the experience more than the paper. a degree in computer science a degree in software engeneering. along with degrees you need certificates to cover up the subjects that were not included in you degree for example with a degree in computer science along with certificates in oracle, networking,c++ and so many more...depends what exactly you are into. this way you would not only be offered an IT job but also a great position. but if you dont have enough finance then i say 100% go for a degree and dont listen to anyone who tells you anything different. after you finish your degree get a job and side by side do a few certificate courses... learning is a never ending process it will open more oppurtunities for you. best of luck. A four year college degree is usually a minimum requirement to apply for jobs with most of the larger companies. These same companies will then often pay for graduate study and/or IT specific training/certifications after you're on board. Definitely go for the degree, and try to get good grades because that counts too. I know my employer doesn't interview anyone with less than a 3.5 cumulative GPA. you know it really depends on the company you are looking to work for. some companies will hire based on overall knowledge in a field (which a degree would be more beneficial) and others are looking towards a certain skillset (which certifications would be more beneficial)......now if you had both then you'd be hitting pay dirt! I am 27, no degree and no commercial IT certifications BUT had 6 years military experience (communications), 1 1/2 years as a Government Civil Service employee and got a job paying over $100K overseas (for an American company). It's really all about what the company is looking for and where they want you to be. 9 years in communications |
