If you're still a student then take as many software engineering electives as you can. When you start looking for a job be sure to list those courses in a section called relevant coursework. Look up software engineering positions on websites like Dice.com and find ways to slant your resume to those positions. For instance, in that field you should definitely know something about UML, so make sure UML shows up on your resume even you only used it for one school project. But don't lie! The whole point is to get an interview in your chosen field. I'm sure any employer would be impressed by someone like you who has strong goals and demonstrated skills in reaching those goals.
