47 too old to learning programming or linux administration? |
need an honest answer?? If I start learning linux will I get a job or not? If yes how long will it take me to get there? The basic concepts of UNIX, on which Linux is founded, are much sinmpler and more elegant than the mess that is Windoze. You are never too old to learn anything you want to set your mind to. As for employment, that is not easy to answer, it depends on your local circumstances. Source(s): School of Hard Knocks You're never too old to learn something new. As far as getting a job I don't know. If you study at a school that has a placement program and a relationship with people who hire Linux programmers and you are at the top of your class I don't see why you shouldn't be able to get a job eventually. Never too old to learn stuff. Depends on what you want to do. I know many people that have computer related jobs, but don't even know what Linux is. There are certs you can get in Linux administration and that may help you greatly when it comes to getting a job. a grandmother of 60+ years just got her degree from college the other day so i believe you a a young 47 year old can learn the programming language of Linux (which is easy), as far as a job and how long depends on you. It is never too late in life it is what you want to do. Look at the demand in your market and go for it! Best of luck I am 25 so I dont know what it's like learning stuff when you are 47 but learning a programming language is fun if you are interested in it. So based on that, if you like programming and creating things then I think you will be able to learn it. If you find it boring then you wont be able to learn it unless you are very determined. A lot of the people on this site make programming out to be a simple thing that you can just pick up. A lot of people pretend like they know what they are talking about but they dont. So don't be discouraged because learning the concepts of programming does take a lot of deep thinking, but again, you may really enjoy it. I dont know anything about network administration but I know I dont like Linux. That is just my personal preference though. If you want to do some type of network administration you might want to look into getting an MCSE certification. I think you will need a degree to get a job in either field but no you are not too old to learn. |
