Anybody know Graphic Design? Can you help me out? |
Hello, my name is Brittany. I'm considering taking up a career in Graphic design. I was wondering if anyone knew the average yearly income for this field? And upon getting my degree would it be hard to find a job? What kinds of company's hire Graphic designers? Is it office hours? Or from home? Is it hard to find and hold onto a job in this career? Any Graphic designers out there willing to help me out it would be greatly appreciated. I would like to know everything you know about being and becomeing a graphic designer. Thank you for your time. My husband has been a graphic designer for 10 years and is leaving the field. In our area, the market is flooded with designers. He went from making a decent wage that we could afford to support our family on to being offered full time jobs that pay in the $10-$15 an hour range. Too much supply = salaries drop. He went back to school full time starting this semester to obtain training in a field where you can actually find decent paying jobs, instead of being stuck in a stagnant graphic design market (at least in our area). I got a degree in Dec 06 and still can't find a job. The market is tough where I live, in North Texas. There are not enough jobs here for a designer. Those I k now with jobs are starting at 25k/year and the senior designers (with 5+ years in the biz) can earn up to 50k. If you are an art director or creative director, you can make even more money. The ad agencies pay the most but are the hardest to get a job at. Good luck!! |
