I have had my CV sent to me to update it but although i can open it i cant amend it what should do? Your CV has probably been changed to 'read only' format. You have two options. Open the file in a normal "my computer" window. Right-Click on the file, and select 'properties'. A Box should appear. Along the bottom should be some 'tick-boxes', saying things like 'read-only' or 'hidden'. If either of these boxes are checked, just uncheck it. If the file is on an email, and you are trying to open the email and edit the document there, you need to go back and save the document to your own computer using 'Save As...' before you can just use the 'save' button. Some documents are protected using more sophisticated means. If you find this is the case, you have the option to open the document, select everything in it (hold down Ctrl and press 'a' to highight everything), copy it (right click on the shaded bit and select copy), then open a brand new document, and paste the information into it. You may lose some of your formatting (e.g. if you'd changed the margin size), but you can alter these settings on your new document, and save it however you like. Hope this helps, good luck with the job! What format? Copy to the Microsoft Word and amend it there It might be opened as "Read Only". When it is open, go to File then Save As. Rename it and save it in a different location. Open the new file. You should now be able to edit the document. the first answerer nailed it: what format is it in? and what software are you using to open it? I would think you originally authored your own CV (but I guess I could be wrong), so use your original source file to update. |
