HOw do i know if this is the right career for me? |
How can i tell now, while in highschool, if i want to become a Graphic Designer/Artist? I love working with computers, and i enjoy making posters and layouts... Is there some website or some class or book i can look into to see if thats the route i want to go? Thanks so much for those of you who answer! My best suggestion would be to contact a few graphic designers.... write up a few questions OR make a call and ask what questions you should ask. A few off the cuff would be: 1. What is your typical day like? 2. Did you get the job easily OR did you have a lot of stepping stones? 3. While you should NOT ask them directly what they make or even do the ballpark thing you could say.. are you able to live on what you make or something similar? 4. Find out if they are in a competitive field once they are in the job. Look at the person you are now and see if this is what you'd like to do. Do not take 1 person's opinion .. make sure you get the good and bad. Also make sure you contact people in small and large firms.. there are different kinds and there are several variances despite the appearance that it would be the same. You are not the person you are going to be when you get older so DO NOT make any lines in the sand; however go into adulthood with open eyes... no one knows everything; however it is good to have information about numerous things... some things will fall into place.. but other things well, they will just fall in. Congratulations on setting your priorities in order... early. I wish you well! How about finding a place of employment that does this and ask if they would let you work for a couple of hours a week to see if it is for you. Good luck. |
