Try getting a job in the civil service or a local authority or ask anyone who has worked there The primary objective is to raise revenues to fund the federal government鈥檚 operations. Secondary objectives include promoting macroeconomic and social policies. - Revenue raising - re-distribution of wealth from rich to poor - to provide services such as schools, hospitals etc. - everybody may not use state schools or NHS hospitals but EVERYBODY benefits from living in a healthy well educated society. - Economic regulator - use tax to promote economic stabilty and to encourage growth. eg. look at the low taxes in stagnant economies such as Russia and Estonia - Demerit goods. Government will put high taxes in items such as alcohol and cigarettes that are bad for our health, |
