How Much Tax Dose The Average Person Pay?

(UK) I was wondering how much tax an average person in the UK pays per year, including income tax, VAT, council tax, and any tax really. If i could have some links or evidence that would be absolutley great, thanks.

Far too much!
35% - 40%
For 2006 the average person in the UK will pay 41.918% of their income in tax.

This is the equivalent of paying everything you earn up to 3rd June to the Government and keeping what you earn after 3rd June for yourself. This date is known as Tax Freedom Day and it will come as no surprise to learn that in most years TFD gets later and later.

Recent TFD days in the UK have been: 2003 - May 26th, 2004 - May 28th, 2005 - May 31st, 2006 - June 3rd.

This compares to the US which has a TFD of 11th April (equal to 27.671% of income) and the EU as a whole which has a TFD of 28th June (equal to 49.041% oif income).
