At what salary do I start to pay 40% tax rate?

At what salary do I start to pay 40% tax rate?

It depends on your tax allowance. The level from April 6th is 拢33001, but if your tax code is 503L, it means you have an additional 拢5035 that you can earn. This means the actual level at which you pay 40% tax is 拢38036. Hope this helps Source(s): www.hmrc.gov.uk

拢60.000
You pay tax at 40% when your taxable pay reaches 拢32400.00

Normally you have your taxable pay each month and then take off your tax code allowance and pay tax on the rest.
As your tax code is has K on the end you are in a negative probably because you have benefits like a company car etc. It ends up in a negative situation when your taxable benefits are more than your personal allowance for that year. As it is negative you need to add the negative tax code onto your taxable earnings.
So for example if you earn 拢3000.00 per month it would work out as this (remember to add 5 onto the end of your tax code)

3000.00 Salary
180.00 Negative amount on tax code (2155 divided by 12)
3180.00 Total Taxable Pay in Month 1

Anything above 拢2700.00 (annual limit of 拢32400.00 divided by 12) will be charged at 40%
Hope this helps
