Why is diesel more expensive than petrol in the uk whereas it is cheaper than petrol in France? good question. why does it bounce above and below regular in the usa? not just by pennies, but by a lot. because the Government have levied more tax on diesel than petrol. In UK you say red car, in France you say car red. Because the level of subsidy too, at one time the UK Govt reduced the tax on diesel to make it 4/5ths the price of petrol, in France the most powerful lobbyists are the farmers, and they demand cheap diesel, also in France a business is allowed to recover the TVA (VAT) on diesel, whereas they cannot on petrol, so this makes the average Joe fight like crazy to keep diesel cheap. So why not make your own diesel?? called Bio Diesel it cost roughly 75 cents a gallon here in US to make a US gallon of diesel from WVO (Waste Vegetable Oil - given away free from restaurants etc), it has 50% reduction in toxins over hydrocarbon diesel and a higher cetane rating too. Want to know how to make it, do a search on the web for "Appleseed Processor", or join any of the Yahoo Bio Diesel groups. Because goverment issue duty on it at a level that brings it higher than French prices. |
