Why is the uk the most taxed country in europe?

Taxes aren't necessarily higher in the UK than in other countries. VAT here is 17.5% whereas in Ireland it is 21%. The rates of tax on income are 0%, 10%, 22% and 40%, whereas in Finland they are 0%, 10.5%, 15%, 20.5%, 26.5% and 33.5%, plus a municipal tax of between 10 and 20% PLUS a church tax (possible maximum total taxes 57%). In the US, some people have the Federal Tax (country level), State Tax, Municipal Tax and School Taxes to pay. Add to this the Social Insurance, Healthcare and other deductions and it' surprising anyone gets a take home pay at all!

We haven't got it as hard as some other places. Haven't got it as easy as some either...
Because of the social programs. The English want the government to do things like their health care etc..
but I haven't figured it out the government does NOT have any money other than the money the PEOPLE give it...can you see the vicious circle of stupidity
I don麓t think it is - aren麓t French taxes higher, and possibly Italian? Particularly when you include social security (national insurance contributions here). There, don麓t you feel better about it now?!
Because of bad management, the country is broke. Ask Mrs Thatcher, she wanted to turn the heat off in winter!
Have you been to Germany? They going higher up then the uk is...they麓ve got tax on everything..
This is because the Chancellor needs a new red box every budget. In recent years he holds two budgets each year, a small one in November and the big one in March. This has meant a further increas in taxes.

The boxes are unique to the Chancellor of the Exchequer and so they don't sell many. The specification is set by the Treasury and clearly is to the highest standard. This means all the development costs are spread over a very few boxes, upto two each year. This makes them very expensive.

Hope this explains why the UK taxes are so much higher than any where else.
