If the people of the UK did not drink or smoke what would be the effect to the government?

They would have to put VAT up by 5% to cover the loss in tax revenue. By banning smoking in pubs this will happen a lot quicker than you think.
Thats almost like saying if there were no people there would be no taxes ?
