Is tax charged on Polish wood imported to UK? If so, what rate?

I plan to import 28,000 sq m of hardwood flooring, but will scratch the deal if a friend's fears of a 20% tax are true. Seems unlikely within EU, but...

What are you going to do with the wood? Assuming it is purchased personally and is not being sold on at a profit or used for business purposes, there should not be any UK tax - although there may be a Polish VAT charge by the seller, but obviously they should inform you of the amount and you can make your decision based on that price.
I am sorry did you say you were importing polished wood or Polish wood ! Going deaf. Why would you want to scratch polished wood especially if you have paid 20% tax on it.
Is Poland a full member of the EU free trade area or do they need to wait say to 2010 to gain full membership. Try looking on the EU webb site.

You could of course get each Polish immigrant working to bring a plank each as they enter the country.

That way you would get the whole batch into the UK in no time at all. LOL !!!
