Why aren't people under 25 entitled to tax credits, they pay the same bills and taxes? |
Why aren't people under 25 entitled to tax credits, they pay the same bills and taxes? Under 25s are entitled to tax credits ONLY if they have children. The reasons I suppose are these: 1. The government is unfair generally 2. Maybe the gov't want to encourage U25s to get better jobs or don't expect them to have so many commitments. There are lots of things which are unfair. The age for the higher minimum wage is 18 even though you could have the same outgoings at 16 or 17. Certain help is only offered to certain age groups. I have more trouble getting help to find a job because I don't fall into one of their categories. I can't do th connexions or new deal for U25 because I am 25. I can't do the new deal for lone parents because I am not a lone parent(I am a parent though) and I can't get other help because I am not on benefits. My partner is expected to keep all of us and we do get some tax credits for the kids but I would like to study at college but can;t because I can't afford to and can't get any help because I have a partner who works full time. His wage doesn't matter. Because the government are mean and so are the tax people! Actually all tax payers are entitled to tax credits. The IRS has hundreds of them from dependant care to hope learning credits. I am not aware of an age limit to any of them except some of the over 65 yrs old item for seniors Its not just the under 25s. I'm (well) over 25 but single. I pay loads of taxes to educate other people's children, clear up the mess they make, pay social workers to slap them on the wrist etc. and even pay them 拢250 at birth so they can save it up to get p*ss*d on their 18th birthday. And before you say it - yes I am bitter and twisted. Three things in life are inevitable--death, taxes, and stupidity. Unfortunately, I'm having a surge of the last one. I have no clue. Tax laws are strange. Because people under 25 are likely to be college students and/or relying on support from their parents. I don't necessarily think this is fair, either, as I was married and supporting myself at 17, but you and I are in the minority. |
