Why do i keep getting sent tax returns forms even though i am working PAYE and have been for the last 3 years? |
i have phoned inland revenue and told them (I used to work on CIS) but not for 3 years! Because the tax man LOVES it when he annoys you. if you've got significant other income, they'll send you one. I don't understand, whats PAYE and CIS? and when do you get tax returns...all the time or what? i really dont know, but i am interested in the answers as they are also doing the same to me. that actually reminds me, i have to send some self certs off It's the luck of the draw, usually, unless they think you might have some additional income from somewhere else. I hav'n't had one for many years, but a retired friend gets one almost every year...... Not all taxpayers are required to fill in tax returns. This is because returns are not normally issued to those taxpayers whom HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) believes are paying the correct amount of tax. Returns are therefore not usually issued to people who have salaries and pensions taxed under Pay As You Earn (PAYE), since it is usually assumed that the correct amount of tax is being deducted at source. Returns are routinely issued to taxpayers whom HMRC believes have:- income from self-employment rental income from property other income which is received gross, that is, where tax has not already been deducted, for example, interest on National Savings investment accounts complex tax affairs, for example, higher rate taxpayers or company directors. Even though returns are not normally issued if you pay tax under PAYE, HMRC may send one to you as a way of checking that your tax affairs are in order. This is quite common where you have changed jobs, or moved from a salary to an occupational pension. HMRC has a legal right to demand completion of a tax return from anyone, and where a return form has been issued the tax office will normally insist upon its completion. You will still get returns if you earn more than about 拢35k as you'll have to declare your income other than employment (PAYE) , eg bank interest and dividends. If your tax affairs are very simple, just contact your local office and ask them to send you the 2 page abbreviated information return rather than a full 10-12 page return - this will give them all the info they need and is much easier |
