How do you work out your net pay eack week, what percentage is tax and NI and how do tax codes affect your pay

Go to www.hmrc.gov.uk you can download leaflets that explain tax codes and NI etc.
Your W2 will explain exactly how your taxable income was calculated: basically, it takes your gross wage and take out the federal income tax, state & local tax, FICA (what they call an employment tax), and any retirement and other employment benefit deal that are exempt from tax. The codes for retirement and benefits are shown on the back of the W2. The tax codes are important, and the rules are reflected on the W2.

W2 withholdings of tax depends on what you claimed on W4 paper you filled out when you got employed. If you claimed high number for dependents, itemization for house, etc., your tax withholding will be small. If you claimed just yourself or none, your tax withholding will be high.

In either case, the final tax paid to the government will be figured during the tax season, and if you had overpaid, you get a refund and if you underpaid, you get to pay when filing your taxes. 'Just make sure that you don't get into so big of underpaid position that you have to pay penalty or have to pay estimated tax in the subsequent year.
A simple way of calculating your net pay is to take 22% away from your gross figure that's if you earn a moderate amount. However if you earn over a specific amount, can't remember what the figure is but something like 35k or 40k then you will need to increase the percentage to 40%. This is not exact but will be close enough for a rough calculation.

The higher your tax code, the more money you can earn before tax is deducted from these earnings. For instance if your tax code is 503, you can earn five thousand and thirty pounds which is non taxable. Your tax code is calculated in your previous earnings and your personal circumstance's.

But best way to find out more about your tax is to visit the Inland Revenue website.
if you are on NI Letter A and tax code 503L (which most people are) the weekly allowance is 拢97.00
so take 拢97.00 off your pay. If you are on letter A then any pay from 拢97.00 to 拢645.00 you pay 11% on. Anything above that is 1%.
With tax it is more difficult as your earnings for the whole year are taken into account (tax year Apr to Mar)
Your pay is added up to that particular week year to date. Then you deduct the tax code allowance year to date off so for example 1 at week 1 your tax code allowance would be 拢97 then week 2 it would be 拢194. Then you should get your year to date taxable pay. Then some of it is multiplied by 10% then 22% and then 40% but it depends what your earnings are.
