Tax credits question about part time work? |
my hubby goes to work i stay at home with the kids, we get tax credits. i would like to get a p/t evening job for 2/3 hours for 2/3days a week. just to get a bit of extra cash. would our tax credits be cut, would i have to tell them as it's less than 16hours, and is it worth me doing it or will it mess my tax credits up. i would ring them up, but they always manage to mess something up and one advisor tells you one thing and another tells you something different. has anyone done something similar. First of all, no offence to the person who put the link to the website but it's the worst site I have ever used and if you can't find what you are looking for on there, it is almost impossible to contact anyone. You can't even send an email to the tax credits people and I don't think I have spoken to an intelligent person on the phone. Well, I know they like to know about everything so they can mess things up for you but I think that the amount you earn is more relevent than the hours if you work less than 16 hours a week. They will do their best to take whatever they can off your tax credits though. They have a habit of doing that. My circumstances haven't changed in a year but they've still decided to give us less tax credits and that I owe them some from a previous claim which, as far as I know, they're not allowed to ask for now anyway. So, your tax credits might be cut. Although, sometimes you can get more if both of you are working. It makes no sense at all because they just make it up as they go along. So if you can work it out, try to figure out how much you would be earning and how much would be taken off you, then decide if it's worth it. You could try going to your local Citizens Advice Bureau, they usually have real people you can talk to. Some of them are even intelligent. i started work less than 16 hrs a week and they took 拢5 off each wage i earned, i still got my tax credits though. i am a single parent. hope you have luck sorting this out This site should tell you what you wanna know hun: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/menus/credits.htm... you must inform them of any change in your circumstances. yes i am afraid you have to tell the tax man as all of your family income is included in the calculations for your credits. experience |
