What is Missouri's sale tax?

What is Missouri's sale tax?

Most states have one rate that goes to the state, but then local counties, school districts, etc. piggyback on that, adding additional percentages. The net result is that the actual tax paid differs in different local jurisdictions in most states.

The base rate is 4.2%. Cities, counties, and other tax and protection districts are allowed to levy as well and most do. I've seen rates as high as 9.6% in some parts of the state.
