Have a 1099 from title co. for material purchased on a rehab. How do I offset this amount if it isn't my mort

The mortgage is in my father's name. The total amount is for materials. I am not earning any money for labor. How can I write this amount off on my taxes?

I'm confused. A title company bought materials from you for a re-hab and then cut you a 1099? That simply doesn't make any sense.

First off, materials purchases are not reported on Form 1099, only payments for services rendered.

Would need much more detail to make any sense out of this.
