Is there a place in Houston, Texas where they can do your taxes for free? In most places VITA has closed down for the year. THEY DO THEM HERE FOR FREE IF YOUR LOW INCOME. Most local law school do pro bono (free of charge) work which includes taxes. Call them, they'll set you up. If your income is below around $40,000, you can have your taxes prepared at no charge at a VITA or TCE site. See irs.gov for more info on these programs - type "VITA" in the search box. You have to call the number listed to get the address of a VITA site. Info for the TCE sites are online, and you can search by zip code. TCE sites focus on people age 60 and over, but most do not require this - call a few near you and ask. Kingwood College, Montgomery or Harris County Public Libraries - many branches have VITA or other volunteers who will help you. |
