I recently changed my deductions to married 9 on my W2,should my state tax change as well as my federal?

On my last paychack, Federal tax was 0 but my state tax was the same as before I changed my W2 to married 9. I live in WI. Is this right?

According the the WT-4 (Wisconsin W4) this form needs to be completed UNLESS you want the same deductions for state as your federal form. In this case, since you only files a W-4 change, your payroll department should have automatically changed your state to match unless you had also provided them with the WT-4. At this point, if you do want your state to be the same, I would just complete the WT-4 and give to your payroll dept. If you want less withholding tax for state, you have to change your status for state.
You changed your W4, which is a federal form. As the other answerer said, you must change your state number also. Each state has its own form.
Claiming 9 is very dangerous! Do you really want to owe IRS? If you want to owe the state, you have to change their withholding form.
The W-4 is for Federal taxes ONLY. Most states have their own version. Many of the deductions on your federal return are not available on your state return. It may not be wise to change the state form.

exirsman is ASSuming your situation does not justify claiming 9 allowances. If you have enough dependents and/or itemized deductions, claiming more may be perfectly safe. I do recommend consulting a CPA about the possibility of ATM if you have a lot of itemized deductions.
