Do I have to do taxes? |
I'm 16 and made about $1,000 last year. yes you have to file your return especially if taxes had been withheld, you will be able to get it back. Yes you have to file for taxes. Unless your parents claim you. you DEFINATELY need to file if any witholding was taken out (taxes), cause you'll all that back. if you did not pay any taxes then probably not. there is no law requiring the average american worker to pay taxes on their wages. there are consequences for not paying income taxes, but no law requiring you to. in fact, the income tax is completely illegal. i know i sound like im crazy, but research it. $1000 says im right You should file if any income taxes were withheld, but only to have those taxes refunded. If no income taxes were withheld, there's no need to file as you didn't make enough money. As long as the $1000 was NOT from self-employment, you aren't required to file. If you got a W-2 for it, then it's NOT self-emploiyment, so no, you don't have to. But if you had anything withheld for federal income tax (box 2 of the W-2 form), you can get that amount refunded to you if you file a return. If you do, be sure to check the box saying you can be claimed as a dependent - on a form 1040EZ, it's on line 5. |
