Can you claim a child who has made 3400.00 in the year or do they have to file taxes and claim them selves?

If they are under 19 (24 if a student) and they are not providing more than half of their own support and they live with you you can claim them. They can still file their own return if they have withholding they wish to recover. They are not required to file if their income is less than $5,150.
You can claim them if they meet all the tests to be a dependent..$3,400 of income won't disqualify them
It depends on if they have a requirable job if not you can claim them and plus if they live in your house you can claim them and it depends on how old they are
It depends on their age, and education status. If they are under 19 or under age 24 and a student you can still claim them.
You can claim them if they meet age restrictions, but they will have to file their own return.
There are 5 test that must ALL; they are the relationship, age residency and support. It sounds like the child meets the relationship test. The age test is under 19 at the end of the year or under 24 if a full-time student or any age if permanently and totally disabled. The child must have lived with you more than 1/2 of the year and the child can not have contributed more than 1/2 of his support for the year. The child may want to file even if you claim him if he had any federal taxes withheld and can get it back. You can claim him/her as a dependent and the child can take only the exemption on him/her return. If the child made over the exemption amount of 3,300 plus what he could get as a standard of 5,150 then he would have to file, so if he made over 8,450 dollars, he would have to file.
If they meet the tests to be a qualifying child, then you can claim them. They must be under age 19, or under 24 and a full-time student, or totally and permanently disabled. They must have lived with you for over half of the year. They must not have provided over half of their own support. There are a few more requirements, but those are the major ones.
